This is a Cover Feature essay in KLN Vol. 56. Literary critic Roh Taehoon discusses the theme of this issue and the current political discourse of “polarization and real estate” by summarizing the history of real estate narratives in Korean literary works, such as “Does Spring Come to Stolen Fields” (1926, Yi Sang-hwa), Three Generations (1931, Yeom Sang-seop), Turbid Rivers (1937, Chae Man-sik), Scenes from Chonggye Stream (1936, Pak Taewon), Seoul is All Full (1966, Lee Ho-cheol), Land (1969, Pak Kyongni), “Another Man’s Room” (1971, Choi In-ho), The Dwarf (1978, Cho Se-hee), Gangnam Dream (2010, Hwang Sok-yong), Fire and My Autobiography (2020, Kim Hye-jin), and Seoyeong-dong Stories (2022, Cho Nam-ju).
