KLN Vol. 61’s Bookmark section features the full-text translation and illustration of writer Kim Tae Yong’s “The Phantom Schoolgirl Army.” After being diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and separating from the man she loved, the protagonist gives herself the name Cha-jeong Lee and spends the rest of her possibly short life in Suncheon. At her neighbor Mok-won and Bo-kyeong’s house for dinner, Cha-jeong learns that Mok-won is making a documentary on the Phantom Schoolgirl Army, which prompts her to take a hard look at her past, examining the “context” that has been her lifelong task and the large void in her life.
