This is an introductory booklet on Hwang Ji-u, produced for the 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair, where Korea participated as the Guest of Honor for the first time and hosted the Korean Literature Tour Program. The author was one of the 62 delegates selected by LTI Korea’s Delegation Selection Committee on the basis of the following criteria: representativeness, existing publications of translated works, and overseas marketability. The entire literature program was co-organized by the LTI Korea, the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee, Daesan Cultural Foundation, Paradise Cultural Foundation and the International Communication Foundation (ICF). The events started at the Leipzig Book Fair in March and finished with the Guest of Honor Program in October. The author participated in the main program in October and literary events in March, April and September. This 25-page booklet consists of: ‘Author’s Literary World’, ‘Poetry Excerpts’, ‘Voices of the Author and Critics’, ‘Biography’ and ‘Bibliography’. The material was put together and analyzed by the literary critic Shin Hyung-cheol, and translated by Kang Yeo-Kyu. The photographs were taken by Han Young-hee. The booklet contains eight poems including ‘37’ translated in German. Hwang Ji-u participated in literary events in Leipzig (March, Leipzig Book Fair), Düsseldorf (April), Berlin (September), Frankfurt House of Literature and Romanfabrik (October). Several of his works have been published in German including: One Day I Will Sit in a Dimly-Lit Bar (2003) and The Shadow of the Fish (2006).
