This is an introductory booklet on Hwang Tong-gyu, produced for the 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair, where Korea participated as the Guest of Honor for the first time and hosted the Korean Literature Tour Program. The author was one of the 62 delegates selected by LTI Korea’s Delegation Selection Committee on the basis of the following criteria: representativeness, existing publications of translated works, and overseas marketability. The entire literature program was co-organized by the LTI Korea, the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee, Daesan Cultural Foundation, Paradise Cultural Foundation and the International Communication Foundation (ICF). The events started at the Leipzig Book Fair in March and finished with the Guest of Honor Program in October. The author participated in the main program in October and literary events in May. This 21-page booklet consists of: ‘Author’s Literary World’, ‘Poetry Excerpts’, ‘Voices of the Author and Critics’, ‘Biography’ and ‘Bibliography’. The material was put together and analyzed by literary scholar Lee Soo-jung, and translated by Chu Geum-hwan. The photographs were taken by Han Young-hee. The booklet contains seven poems including ‘Wind Burial 1’ translated in German. He participated in literary events in Hamburg in May and at the Frankfurt Book Fair Korean Pavilion and Museum Angewandte Kunst in October. As one of the 12 Masters of Korean Literature, he was introduced at the Frankfurt Book Fair Korean Pavilion—with a large photograph and a list of his major works and translated titles. Several of his works have been published in German including: Wind Burial (1996), Flower’s Silence (2015), and A Winter Night at 00:05 Hours (2015).
