Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 came out in South Korea in 2016 and blew off the proverbial doors. Kim Jiyoung is presented as an average Korean woman, but when she begins to exhibit multiple personalities, she’s sent to a psychiatrist’s office, where she tells the story of her life. That story is comparable to any other woman’s, which is to say that it’s filled with pervasive prejudice, from microaggressions at school to sexual harassment to the gender pay gap. The ordinariness is the point.
