Kim Manjung (1637-1692) es uno de los mayores autores de la narrativa coreana clásica, y su obra El sueño de las nueve nubes es considerada la primera novela moderna de su país. Literato de noble familia, alto funcionario, minisytro, poesía una amplísima cultura poética, musical y filosófica, que incluía un amplio dominio del taoísmo, el confucionismo y el budismo, las tres grandes corrientes de pensamiento que marcaron el rumbo de las civilizaciones de Extremo Oriente. On the surface it is an entertaining tale of a young man who travels through two lifetimes accompanied by eight beautiful maidens; at its core, it is philosophical novel about Buddhism and Confucianism.
