The annual Korean Diaspora Literature Essay Contest was launched in 2018 in order to raise awareness of overseas Korean writers and their works and to revitalize diaspora discourse. The contest is open to anyone who speaks Korean. Candidates must select one of the selected titles, and submit an essay. Three prizes (Grand Prize, First Prize and Commendation Prize) are presented in each of the two categories (general and youth), and all submissions are subjected to a thorough judging process consisting of preliminary, main and final assessments. In 2015, a total of 25 titles were selected for the 5th Korean Diaspora Literature Essay Contest. This anthology contains essays by the 37 prize winners (13 in the general category and 24 in the youth category) of the 5th Korean Diaspora Literature Essay Contest.
