Choi In-Hun (1936) es una de las figuras más representativas del teatro coreano contemporáneo. Célebre novelista (La Plaza, Verbum, 2006), su obra, distanciada de las técnicas del realismo tradicional, busca su expresión a través de un realismo fantástico, que le permite explorar con destreza algunos de sus temas preferidos: la alienación, la pérdida de la identidad y la constante erosión de los valores tradicionales de la cultura coreana. Las tres obras de teatro que recoge este volumen son un buen ejemplo de ello: sueño, fantasía, pensamiento mágico y la cruda realidad se mezclan para ofrecer un escenario profundamente humano y perturbador. En la pieza En tiempos lejanos el autor presenta la desolada situación de una familia campesina sometida a la servidumbre rural, al tiempo que pone en escena la importancia del pensamiento mítico en un periodo ya superado por la sociedad coreana.

Esta muestra de cinco de las voces más representativas de la poesía contemporánea de Corea busca abrir nuevas puertas para acercarnos a su mundo. La mayoría de los poemas aquí presentados están escritos en un lenguaje cotidiano, sin ornamentos, en una forma natural, pero sin perder por ello profundidad ni emoción; esto es, las palabras de todos los días elevadas a símbolos poéticos. Estos cinco poetas, no han perdido el vínculo con los orígenes y fundamentos que vienen desde el sijo, poesía clásica iniciada más o menos en el siglo XIII, y que es muy aparecida por el pueblo coreano.   Cho Chong Kwon, Moon Chung-hee, Lee Sooik, Lee Hyung-gi y Ko Un, saben que el universo es un círculo de correspondencias vitales, por lo que sus palabras sobreviven al mundo del ser humano y persiguen la virtud. Qui est l’auteur de cet hommage rendu à toutes les mères du monde, celles qui remplacent humblement les dieux dans les foyers ? Elle se nomme Moon Chung-hee. Elle est l’une des figures majeures de la poésie coréenne contemporaine, mais n’avait encore jamais été publiée en France. Ses textes, rassemblés sous le titre Celle qui mangeait le riz froid, ont souvent pour point de départ une réalité prosaïque : un légume, une lessiveuse de linge sale, la préparation d’un repas, un parfum, une fleur, un examen médical. Mais l’auteure possède le don de transfigurer les choses les plus ordinaires pour en révéler la profondeur et la charge émotive. Sa poésie touche au coeur avec des mots simples. Puisi-puisi Moon Chung Hee adalah simbol kebebasan dan jati diri perempuan di tengah perubahan masyarakat Korea yang luar biasa cepat sejak 1970-an. Puisi-puisinya menggambarkan konflik batin perempuan Korea di tengah tradisi masyarakat yang patriarki, kerinduan pada kebebasan di tengah kerasnya realita, perasaan cinta dan patah hati ketika tumbuh di sebuah negeri yang terbagi, kesepian di tengah masyarakat modern yang bergerak cepat, dan skeptisisme terhadap peradaban yang terus mendorong ke arah materialisme. Dalam puisi-puisi Moon Chung Hee, tak ada kemarahan yang meledak-ledak, atau luapan kegembiraan, atau perasaan yang mendayu-dayu. Puisi-puisinya disampaikan dengan lirih, dan ada ironi di sana. Dalam kegembiraan menyelip kesedihan, dalam kemarahan menyelip humor dan hasrat menertawakan diri sendiri.
