Plot

Wi-nyeong, an 18-year-old high-school girl, lives with her father after her parents divorce. Her father is wary of her free-spiritedness, seeing something of her mother in her, and Wi-nyeong feels suffocated at home. During the summer vacation, she goes to live at her mother’s house. There, she is greeted by her two younger half-brothers, Dongbin and Jeje, and Wi-nyeong adjusts to her new home.

2007년 3월 1일부터 8월 31일까지 <중앙일보>에 연재된 공지영의 장편소설이다. 이 작품은 소설은 세 번 결혼하고 세 번 이혼한 뒤 성씨가 다른 세 아이를 키우는 엄마의 이야기로, 작가인 공지영의 자전적 내용을 담고 있다. 독특한 가족의 형태를 다루면서도 '가족'이라는 이름으로 상처와 절망을 보듬는 이야기라 평가된다.

My Happy House by Gong Ji-Young was first serialized in JoongAng Ilbo from March 1 to August 31, 2007. This semi-autobiographical novel follows a thrice-married, thrice-divorced mother raising three children with different surnames. With its story of an unusual family, the novel attempts to heal the rifts and wounds that are sustained in the name of “family.”
