2016년에 출간된 정세랑의 장편소설이다. 2017년 제50회 한국일보문학상을 수상했다. 2016년1월부터 같은 해 5월까지 '창비 블로그'에 연재했었다. 작품은 수도권의 한 대학병원을 중심으로 50명의 주요인물의 이야기를 펼쳐낸다. 각자가 겪고 있는 고통과 슬픔이 혼자만의 것이 아니라는 것을 중점적으로 제시한다. 50명의 작중 인물의 이름을 장(章)제목으로 사용했다.
