Plot

The narrator works part-time as a “push man” in a subway station. He leads a monotonous and repetitive life working part-time for a small wage of 3,000 won an hour, but one day sees the vision of his father who has turned into a giraffe.

This short story criticizes the contradictions of a capitalist society through the repetitive life of a low-wage laborer. The narrator’s father, who appears as a giraffe in the narrator’s vision, is symbolic of the desire to escape from the society ruled by cruel, survival-of-the-fittest mentality.

이 작품은 저임금 노동자의 반복되는 일상을 통해 자본주의 사회의 모순을 비판한다. '나'의 환상속에서 기린의 모습으로 등장하는 아버지는 비정한 약육강식의 사회로부터 벗어나고자 하는 욕망을 상징적으로 드러낸다.
