2021년에 개정판으로 출간된 이문열의 중단편집(제4권)이다. 2001년에 출간된 작가의 중단편집<우리들의 일그러진 영웅>의 표제를 <타오르는 추억>으로 바꿔 출간한 것이다. 표제작을 비롯하여 <이 황량한 역에서>, <과객>, <두 겹의 노래>, <장군과 박사>등 모두 8편이 수록되어 있다. 한국전쟁과 분단, 반공이데올로기 등 한국현대사의 다양한 국면을 이문열 특유의 보수적인 역사관으로 담아내었다.

This four-volume collection of stories by Yi Mun-yol was published in 2021. It is a revised and retitled edition of the author’s 2001 story collection Our Twisted Hero. The collection contains eight stories in total, including “At This Desolate Station,” “The Passing Stranger,” “Double Song,” “The General and the Doctor,” and the title story. Demonstrating the author’s distinctively conservative view of history, the stories explore various aspects of modern Korean history, such as the Korean War, division, and anti-communist ideology.
