1987년에 출간된 이문열중단편집(제4권)이다. 표제작인 <우리들의 일그러진 영웅>외에 <과객>, <타오르는 추억>, <장군과 박사>등 모두 8편이 수록되어 있다. 이 소설집에 수록된 작품들은 주로 1980년대에 발표된 작품들로, '전후소설'이라 불릴만큼 한국전쟁이 남긴 상처를 다루고 있다. 작가는 사회와 불화하는 아버지, 전쟁 중에 사라진 아버지 등 부재하는 상징권력인 아버지를 찾는 대신 아버지를 대체할 수 있는 새로운 질서와 정의를 찾으려는 시도를 보여주고 있다

Published in 1987, this short story collection by Yi Mun-ryol introduces eight of his stories including “A General and a Doctor,” “Flaming Remembrances,” “Wayfarer,” and the title story “Our Twisted Hero.” Known as “the stories of the aftermath of war,” Yi’s works in this collection deal with the scars left behind by the war, such as the absence and the replacement of the father or the father-figure, and the father in conflict with the changing order of society. In these stories, the writer also suggests a new, possible social order as well as new definition of justice.
