2007년에 출간된 은희경의 소설집이다. 표제작인<아름다움이 나를 멸시한다>를 포함하여 <지도 중독>, <의심을 찬양함> 등 모두 6편이 수록되어 있다. 수록작들은 일관된게 현실과 환상의 경계를 가로지르는 인물둘의 이야기로 구성되어 있다. 소설이 현실을 위반함으로써 긴장을 만들어내듯이 작가는 현실보다 더 현실같은 소설을 통해서 삶의 진실을 제시한다. 한편 작가가 보여주는 핍진한 소설적 현실은 비루하고 비극적인 일상에 대한 예민한 시선에 의해 가능하다.

Published in 2007, this collection by Eun Heekyung introduces six of her short stories including “Beauty Looks Down on Me,” “Map Obsession,” and “Praise the Doubt.” The common theme across all six stories is the blurring of the boundary between fantasy and reality. By distorting reality and thereby creating tension, the writer produces fictional stories which seem more real than real. Expressed in a detached voice, the writer’s cynicism enables readers to look closer at reality through these stories.
