Plot

The narrator writes poetry in an inn in Anyang, waiting for a call from the woman he loved in the past. He wastes time doing nothing, but one day he goes up to the roof because he thinks there is something wrong with the phone line. On the other hand, the character “you” is the narrator’s past self, and “you” tells the story of the woman the narrator loved in college. “He” is the narrator’s future self. “He” drives to Namwon and wanders around with a bar girl. After spending a night at Seonunsa Temple, “he” lets the narrator out of the car trunk and leaves.

This is a novel by Yi In-seong, published in 1995. In this work, “you,” the first-person narrator “I,” and “he” appear in the past, present, and future tenses, respectively. Revealing Yi In-seong's unique experiment with novels, this work is considered to be a novel that fundamentally reflects on the desires that exist in human relationships and the mysteries of those desires.
