2000년에 출간된 황선미의 장편동화다. 작품은 닭장 안에서 알을 낳는 일을 하기로 정해진 '잎싹'이 닭장을 벗어나 자신만의 아이를 낳고 기른다는 이야기다. 갇힌 곳에서 주어진 상황에서 사는 것이 아니라 자신의 삶을 스스로 결정하는 것의 아름다움을 '닭'을 통해서 보여주고 있다.
