Novelist Lee Cheong-jun and International Association of Hispanists’ president Botrel met at the Hoam Hall of Seoul National University on November 9, and had a serious, in-depth conversation about literature and the world. President Botrel, who attended the 1st World Cervantes Colloquium held in Seoul, read the French translation of Lee Cheong-jun's Ieodo (이어도) before visiting Korea and was so deeply impressed by the images of the “desire for the absolute and the desire for absence in Lee’s work that he came to Seoul hoping to meet the writer. Their conversation was a great example of how two intellectuals who have lived in different environments with different goals met through Ieodo and discuss a common cause.
