Někde zvoní telefon (2010) sleduje osudy čtyř mladých hrdinů během pohnuté doby politických nepokojů v Korejské republice na přelomu 80. a 90. let 20. století. Hlavní postavu románu, někdejší studentku literatury Čong Jun, vrhne zpět do víru vzpomínek na její vysokoškolská léta v Soulu nenadálý telefonát od bývalého přítele. Prostřednictvím návratu do doby jejího mládí Čong Jun znovu prožívá euforickou lásku i bolestné ztráty, které jsou neoddělitelně propletené s tragickými událostmi na pozadí tehdejšího autoritativního režimu. Do osudů čtyř mladých lidí zasáhne znepokojivá atmosféra frustrace z politického vývoje v zemi, provázená neustálými studentskými demonstracemi, protesty vůči potírání protivládních hnutí a pátráním po nezvěstných kamarádech. Det var kaldt og fullt av snø ute den morgenen telefonen ringte. Men så fort hun hørte stemmen i den andre enden, var ChongYou tilbake i ungdommen igjen. Myong-so hadde vært kjæresten hennes da, på åttitallet, mens Sør-Korea fortsatt var et militærdiktatur. Men for å overvinne verden hadde de holdt sammen, de fire: Tan, Mi-ru, Myong-so og henne. Sammen hadde de vandret i Seouls gater, sammen hadde de snakket, lest og skrevet, sammen hadde de delt drømmer, sår og skuffelser.
