박성우(1971~)는 한국의 시인이다. 2000년 중앙일보 신춘문예에 시<거미>로 당선되어 등단했다. 2006년 한국일보 신춘문예 동시 부문에 당선되기도 했다. 제25회 신동엽창작상(2007), 제7회 윤동주문학상 젊은작가상(2012), 제20회 백석문학상(2018) 등을 수상했다.
생애
박성우는 1971년 전라북도 정읍에서 출생했다. 원광대 문예창작학과 대학원에서 <박정만 시 연구>로 박사 학위를 받았다. 2000년 중앙일보 신춘문예 시 「거미」가 당선되어 문단에 데뷔했다. 또한 2006년에는 한국일보 신춘문예 동시부문에도 당선되어 아동문학을 시작한다. 2009년 한국간행물윤리위원회 청소년 저작 및 출판 지원 사업에 청소년 시가 당선되었다. 2012년 우석대학교 문예창작학과 교수로 재직하다가 현재에는 시 쓰기에만 몰두하고 있다.
작품세계
박성우 시인은 자신의 작품에서 가난의 문제를 주요하게 다룬다. 시인에게 가난은 시적 상상력의 기원이다. 그의 작품은 가난의 문제를 기본축으로 삼아, 확산되거나 응집되는 양상을 보여준다. 빚 때문에 떠도는 아버지와 삼베를 만들어 파는 어머니 등 시인의 가족사가 압축된 작품 <생솔>이 대표적인 경우다.
시인이 2002년에 발간한 시집 ≪거미≫에는 양손이 우둘투둘한 두꺼비 같았던 아버지는 돌아가시고(<감꽃>, <두꺼비>, <친전>), 어머니는 칠순이 되도록 자식이 다니는 대학의 청소부로(<대나무는 나이테가 없다>, <찜통>, <반나잘 혹은 한나잘>, <어머니>), 누이들과 화자는 그러한 상황을 어쩔 수 없이 받아들이는(<싸라기밥풀>, <생솔>, <누에>, <취나물>) 모습이 등장한다. 시인은 시집 곳곳에서 가난으로 고통 받는 가족의 모습을 자괴감을 갖고 그려내고 있다. 또한 시집 여러 곳에서 드러나는 노동의 곤궁함이나 실업의 고통은 인간을 물화(物化)시키고 있음을 강조한다(<귀퉁이>, <참새>, <미싱 창고>, <망둥어>, <빨판 상어>). 박성우의 시가 지니는 특유함은 그가 자신의 작품에서 가난 문제를 중점적으로 다루기 때문이 아니라, 가난의 문제를 미적으로 형상화하는데 있다. 시인은 가난의 체험을 작품의 전략으로 삼지 않는다. 시인은 오히려 가난을 관찰의 어조로 바라본다.1)
한편 시인은 아동과 청소년 문학에 관심으로 2006년 신춘문예에 동시부문에서 당선되기도 했다. 이후 아동과 청소년에 관해 꾸준하게 작품을 발표하고 있다. 직접 청소년들을 만나면서 알게 된 그들의 속 깊은 이야기들을 시로 쓴 ≪난 빨강≫(2010년)은 기성시인으로서는 최초로 청소년 고유의 말법으로 청소년들의 모습을 그려냈다. 청소년 시집, 그림동화집, 동시집 등을 쓰며, '지금 여기' 청소년들이 겪고 있는 고민과 갈등에 귀를 기울인다.

Introduction
Park Sung-woo (1971-) is a South Korean Poet. He made his debut winning the Korea Joongang Daily New Writer’s Contest with his poem “Geomi” (거미 A Spider) in 2000. He also won Hankook Ilbo New Writer’s Contest in children’s poetry section. He received the 25th Shin Dong-yup Prize for Literature (2007), the 7th Yun Dongju Literature Young Writers' Award (2012), and the 20th Baek Seok Prize for Literature (2018), etc.
Life
Park Sung-woo was born in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do in 1971. He obtained a doctor’s degree with “A Study on the Poetry of Park Jeong Mann” at the Department of Creative Writing, Graduate School of Wonkwang University. He made his debut winning the Korea Joongang Daily New Writer’s Contest with his poem “Geomi” (거미 A Spider) in 2000. In 2006, he started children’s literature as he won Hankook Ilbo New Writer’s Contest in children’s poetry section. His juvenile poetry was chosen by the Writing and Publication Project for Youth supported by Korea Publication Ethics Commission. He used to be a professor of creative writing at Woosuk University in 2012 but is now committing himself to writing poetry.
Writing
Poverty is a main theme of Park’s works. For him, poverty is the origin of his poetic imagination. His works expand from, or condense to, the core of the problem of poverty. “Saengsol” (생솔 Unseasoned Pine) is representative of those works, summarizing the poet’s family history showing the father wandering due to debt and the mother weaving and selling hemp cloth.
In the poetry collection Geomi published in 2002, thefather with his hands bumpy like a toad passed away (“Gamkkot” (감꽃 A Persimmon Flower), “Dukkeobi” (두꺼비 A Toad), “Chinjeon” (친전 Dear Father)); the mother is still working as a cleaning woman at the college her son goes to at the age of 70 (“Daenamuneun Naitega Eopda” (대나무는 나이테가 없다 A Bamboo Does Not Have Growth Rings) “Jjimtong” (찜통 A Steamer), “Bannajal Hogeun Hannajal” (반나잘 혹은 한나잘 Quarter-day or Half-day), “Eomeoni” (어머니 Mother)); and the narrator and his sisters think all these things cannot be helped (“Ssaragibappul” (싸라기밥풀 Tiny Pellets of Rice), “Saengsol,” “Nue” (누에 Silkworm), “Chwinamul” (취나물 Seasoned Aster)). Here and there in the collection, the poet describes the family suffering from poverty with the sense of shame. Also, his emphasis on distressful labor and painful unemployment reificating human beings could be found in many pieces (“Gwitungi” (귀퉁이 The Corner) “Chamsae” (참새 A Sparrow) “Mising Changgo” (미싱 창고 A Shed of Sewing Machines) “Mangdungeo” (망둥어 A Mudskipper) “Ppalpan sangeo” (빨판 상어 A Remora)). The distinctive feature of Park’s works is not that he takes poverty as the main theme, but that he aesthetically embodies the issue. The poet does not strategically deploy his experiences of poverty for his works. Rather, he takes an observer’s attitude.[1]
Meanwhile, Park is also interested in children and juvenile literature. He won a New Writer’s Contest in children’s poetry section in 2006. Afterwards, he has been constantly publishing works for children and youth. Nan Ppalgang, a collection of poems reflecting personal stories of teenagers the poet had met, was the first attempt to describe teenagers in their own language. Writing juvenile poetry, illustrated children’s story and children’s poems, the poet pays attention to troubles and conflicts that teens are going through “here and now.”
