1. 도입부
김소연(1967년 ~ )은 대한민국의 시인이다. 1993년 《현대시사상》에 〈우리는 찬양한다〉 등을 발표하면서 작품 활동을 시작했다.
2. 생애
김소연은 1967년 경상북도 경주에서 태어나, 가톨릭대학교 국문학과를 졸업하여 동 대학원에서 석사학위를 받았다. 1993년 시단에 데뷔한 이후 그녀는 어둠과 빛의 대조 속에서 드러나는 차분하면서도 애틋한 정서를 투명하고도 선명하게 포착하는 시를 써왔다. 서울예술대학, 한국예술종합학교 등에서 시를 가르치며 여러 후배 문인들을 배출하기도 했다. 1989년에 결성된 21세기전망 동인으로 진이정, 유하, 차창룡, 함민복 등과 함께 활동했으며, 『극에 달하다』(문학과지성사, 1996), 『빛들의 피곤이 밤을 끌어당긴다』(민음사, 2006), 『눈물이라는 뼈』(문학과지성사, 2009), 『수학자의 아침』(문학과지성사, 2013) 등 총 네 권의 시집을 상재했다. 2008년에 출간한 에세이집 『마음사전』이 많은 독자들에게 사랑 받으면서 대중에게도 널리 알려지게 되었다. 창작 활동과 더불어 사회에 대한 비판적인 문제의식을 꾸준히 제기하는 활동들로도 주목을 받고 있다. 2009년 용산참사 진실규명을 요구하는 ‘작가선언 6·9’에 참여했으며, 쌍용차 해고노동자들의 문제를 다루는 <굴뚝신문>의 발행과 제작에 참여하기도 했고, 최근에는 문단 내 성폭력 사건들로 피해를 입은 피해자들을 돕기 위한 『참고문헌없음』 프로젝트의 주요 일꾼으로 참여하면서 비판적인 사회 활동에 적극적으로 나서는 중이다. 2010년 제 10회 노작문학상과 2011년 제57회 현대문학상을, 2015년 제12회 이육사 시문학상을 수상했다.
3. 작품세계
김소연의 시는 청춘의 온갖 상처를 몸으로 통과한 기록을 새겨놓는 것으로 잘 알려져 있다. 그녀의 첫 시집은 청춘의 온갖 상처를 온몸으로 통과한 자의 예민하고 언어와 감정이 들어 있었다. 청춘의 폐허를 목격한 이의 피곤과 허무, 그리고 쓸쓸함과 공허함이 애틋하게 가득했던 그의 시들은 고통스러웠던 젊은 날의 계절을 인상적인 언어 감각으로 스케치했던 것이다. 그녀의 세 번 째 시집 『눈물이라는 뼈』에서도 역시 이러한 서정적인 감수성이 가득했는데, 이에 대해 문학평론가 박상수는 그녀를 “눈물의 순교자”라고 표현하기도 했을 정도이다. 그러나, 그녀의 슬픔은 단순히 개인적인 정서에 머문다고 할 수는 없을 것이다. 특히 최근 시집에 올수록 그녀의 슬픔이 ‘우리’라는 새로운 공동체의 가능성에 대한 희망과 기대를 의미하게 되었기 때문이다. 그녀의 시집에 가득한 눈물과 통증, 그리고 슬픔은 타인에게 전하고자 하는 위로의 한 형식에 가깝다. 그녀의 시 세계는 전위와 낯선 실험으로 가득한 2000년대의 젊은시와 전통적인 서정시의 중간에서 균형감을 유지하고 있다. 제 12회 이육사시문학상을 수상한 네 번째 시집 『수학자의 아침』에 대한 심사평은 다음과 같다. “때로는 더없이 투명하고 신선한 언어 감각과, 때로는 이해 불가능한 말들의 솟구침으로 앞선 세대의 ‘이유 있는’ 저항과 새로운 세대의 ‘이유 없는’ 좌충우돌 사이에서 자신만의 시어로 두 세대를 연결하고 있다.” 언어에 대한 예민한 자의식과 인간의 슬픔이 지니고 있는 깊이를 동시에 탐문하는 그녀의 작품들은 시가 현실과 접속할 수 있는 문학적 통로가 무엇인지를 아름답게 증명하고 있다.

1. Introduction
Kim So Yeon (Hangul 김소연; born 1967) is a South Korean poet. In 1993, she published her first poem “Urineun chanyanghanda” (우리는 찬양한다 We Praise) in the journal Poetry & Thought.
2. Life
Kim So Yeon was born in Gyeongju, South Korea in 1967. She studied Korean literature at the Catholic University of Korea, where she also earned her master’s degree. Since her literary debut in 1993, she has written poems that use the contrast between light and dark to convey a quiet sense of longing. She has taught poetry at the Seoul Institute of the Arts and Korea National University of Arts, where a number of her students have gone onto become professional poets. She was a part of a literary circle called 21-segijeonmang (“21st century outlook”), which was formed in 1989 and included fellow South Korean poets Jin I-jeong, Yoo Ha, Cha Chang-ryong, and Ham Min Bok.
She published four poetry collections: Geuge dalhada (극에 달하다 Pushed to the Limit) in 1996; Bitdeurui pigoni bameul kkeureodanginda (빛들의 피곤이 밤을 끌어당긴다 The Exhaustion of Stars Pulls the Night) in 2006; Nunmuriraneun ppyeo (눈물이라는 뼈 Bones Called Tears) in 2009; and Suhakjaui achim (수학자의 아침 A Mathematician’s Morning) in 2013. She gained wider recognition with the success of her 2008 essay collection Maeum sajeon (마음사전 Dictionary of the Mind).
Kim has also been noted for her activism. She signed the Writers’ Declaration 6.9, which petitioned the South Korean government to investigate the deaths of six people during a police raid in 2009, an incident known in South Korea as the “Yongsan Tragedy.” Kim also participated in the writing and production of Gulttuk Shinmun, a newspaper dedicated to the controversial mass layoffs conducted by Ssangyong Motor Company in 2009. More recently, she was an active member of “With No References,” a project to help victims of sex crimes reported within South Korean literary circles.
Kim won the 10th Nojak Literature Prize in 2010, the 57th Hyundae Literary Award in 2011, and the 12th Yi Yuksa Poetry Award in 2015.
3. Writing
Kim So Yeon’s poetry often describes the physical experience of pain in youth. This characteristic is particularly evident in her first poetry collection. The poems are filled with the sense of fatigue, futility, loneliness, and emptiness one feels when looking back on past hardships. Her third poetry collection Nunmuriraneun ppyeo (눈물이라는 뼈 Bones Called Tears) is also replete with such lyricism. Literary critic Park Sang-su has called Kim “a martyr of tears.” In her recent work, Kim does not simply present sadness as a personal condition, but as a potentially communal experience. Her poetry sits somewhere between conventional lyric poetry and avant-garde poetry, which was popular among young South Korean poets in the 2000s.
Kim’s fourth poetry collection Suhakjaui achim (수학자의 아침 A Mathematician’s Morning) won the 12th Yi Yuksa Poetry Award and received the following commentary from the judges: “Using language that alternates between refreshingly lucid and boldly convoluted, Kim bridges the gap between the older generation who fought for a reason and the younger generation who clamor without a reason.”
