'고양이 학교'의 바탕이 되는 주요 모티브는 '고대 예언'과 '수정동굴'을 둘러싸고 벌어지는 수정 고양이들과 인류의 멸망을 기도하는 그림자 고양이들의 대립이다. 마침내 예언의 날은 다가오고 수정고양이들과 그림자고양이들간의 최후의 싸움이 스릴있게 전개된다. 마침내 대단원의 막이 내리게 되는 모험과 흥미가 가득한 이야기속으로 들어가보자. 
수정 고양이의 진정한 바람은 인간과 더불어 모든 생물들이 더불어 살아갈 세상을 만드는 것이다. 따라서 '고양이 학교'는 인간이 다른 생물을 어떻게 다루고 있는지를 비판하는 생태 동화로도 읽힌다.
