Plot

This is a story about Yi Sang, a knowledgeable young man who is ill and cynical, and Jeonghui, a woman he loves who dabbles in infidelity and betrayal. Jeonghui ends her relationship with other men and confesses to Yi Sang that she only loves him, but he learns that she has said the same word to another man known as S and he faints. When Yi Sang wakes up, Jeonghui is gone, having left to go meet S.

Along with “Wings” and “Child’s Bone,” this story is considered one of Yi Sang’s trilogy. It describes the psychological world of the first-person narrator in an esoteric style, allowing the reader to see an aspect of the author Yi Sang’s life and art.
