One day, Ogi has a car accident that leaves his wife dead and himself paralyzed, unable to do anything but blink. As he cannot remember what his life was like before the accident, he is unable to express his grief and sorrow to his mother-in-law. Eveything loses its clarity for Ogi.

2016년에 출간된 편혜영의 장편소설이다. 작가는 갑자기 일어난 사고로 인해 모든 삶이 뒤틀려버린 주인공의 현재와 과거를 직조하여 복잡하면서 고통스러운 내면을 그려낸다. 사고 이전에 대한 기억을 잃어버린 주인공을 통해 작가는 보통의 삶이란 무엇인지 질문을 던지고 있다.

This novel by Pyun Hye Young was published in 2016. It portrays the inner world of a character whose life is turned upside down after a sudden accident. Drawing from the character’s past and present, as well as his experience of severe memory loss, the work questions what it means for a life to be normal.

Paralysé après un accident de voiture ayant causé la mort de sa femme, Ogui est cloîtré chez lui sous la tutelle d’une belle-mère étrange. Cette veuve respectable le néglige peu à peu, le laissant seul affronter sa convalescence, et s’obstine à creuser un immense trou dans le jardin entretenu autrefois par sa fille. Afin, dit-elle, de terminer ce qu’elle a commencé.
