Plot

After a car accident, the narrator quits his job as a scriptwriter and takes a break. One day, he is contacted by a former colleague, the program director Kim Hyeonpil. When they meet, Kim hands over his house key, and then jumps in front of a moving taxi. As a witness to Kim’s sudden and inexplicable death, the narrator is questioned by the police. During the course of the investigation, it is revealed that Kim and Jang Jinhwa had frequented a Coca-Cola Club in Gangnam, where they would use cocaine.

This novel by Youn Dae-Nyeong was published in 1999. It is a complete rewrite of I Am a Camera, a work of fiction that was serialized in 1996 on Hitel, a PC communications network. With depth of observation, it depicts the culture of addiction and contagion that dominated Korean society in the mid-1990s. The characters search for their individual selves in a complex and modern society.
