About the Author

Plot

Kay returns to Korea from New York, having enjoyed city life to the fullest – going to parties and concerts, and taking drugs with her friends Summer and Dan. By contrast, the reality that awaits her in Korea offers nothing but boredom and anxiety about the future. Kay becomes acquainted with a middle-aged former student activist, and meets up with her old friends Jiwon, who has been working at the Incheon Industrial Complex after graduating from high school, and Jaehyun, who has also lived in New York. In these ways, she navigates her present life and decides to be no longer afraid.

This novel by Kim Sa-gwa was published in 2013. Through its descriptions of the lives of the main character and her friends in New York and Seoul, the book presents, without embellishment, the modern-day realities of young people in Korean society.
