2012년에 출간된 신경숙의 다섯 번째 소설집이다. 표제작인 <종소리>를 포함하여 6편의 단편소설이 수록되어 있다. 친밀성의 부재, 관계의 단절, 혹은 고독으로 현상하는 현대인의 불행한 실존을 다룬다.

Published in 2012, The Toll of the Bell is Shin Kyung-sook’s fifth collection of stories. It contains six works of fiction, including the title story. The collection explores the modern condition through its portrayal of the unhappy existence of its characters, whose circumstances leave them vulnerable to social disconnection, lack of intimacy, and loneliness.
