Gyechuk Ilgi tells the story of the King Seonjo's wife, Queen Dowager Inmok (仁穆大妃, Queen Dowager refers to the king’s mother or grandmother. As King Seonjo is Prince Gwanghae‘s father, Queen Inmok became Queen Dowager Inmok, even though she is not related by blood to Prince Gwanghae), after an incident known as Gyechuk Oksa (癸丑獄事), which occurred in the 5th year of the reign of Prince Gwanghae (1613). This book contains factual essays and fiction about the historical events in which Queen Dowager Inmok was imprisoned in the West Palace.
