Plot

Jang Won-du returns home when he receives news about Masao's death. Masao, who was once Won-du’s childhood hero, is an infamous gangster in his hometown, and many people attend his funeral to express their condolences. However, it turns out that the townspeople are gathered to discuss what would happen now that Masao is dead rather than for Masao's funeral. Someone has to take over after Masao, now that he is dead, and everyone wants the power that Masao had. The townspeople and the people from outside the town begin to fight for power. And at the center of the conflict is Jae-cheon, an old friend of Won-du.

This is a novel by Song Sokze, published in 1996. It shows the lust for power that is latent in human beings through the world of gangsters. The author vividly depicts the lives of gangsters in a small town, which is the main space of this novel, and people’s desire for power as they attempt to gain dominance in the region, clearly and plainly showing the relationship between humans and power.
