1980년1월부터 1981년11월까지 <한국문학>에 연재했던 한말숙의 장편소설이다. 1981년12월 단행본으로 출간되었다. 작품은 인간의 삶과 죽음, 사랑과 미움, 기독교와 샤머니즘 등 현실 세계를 둘러싼 상반된 세계에 대한 주인공의 문제의식을 깊이 있는 문장으로 다루고 있다. 특히 윤회사상과 삶과 죽음의 경계에 대한 고민이 작중인물들의 다양한 관계를 통해 드러나 있다.

This story by Han Malsook was serialized in Korean Literature from January 1980 to November 1981, and it was published as a single novel in December 1981. The story deals with love and hate, and Christianity, shamanism, and reincarnation, in a setting that blurs the boundaries between life and death, and between reality and the dream world.
