Plot

Mi-yang, who is about to get married, starts tracking down her younger sister So-yang, who has been away for a few days. Meeting with So-yang's friends and reading So-yang's diary, Mi-yang tries to understand her little sister. So-yang hates her worldly family, who has become rich through a mine. On the one hand, she tries to join the student movement, but she becomes skeptical of the movement’s elitism. Unable to adapt to the consuming one-time encounters of young people, So-yang wanders and confines herself from reality.

This is a short story by Kang Seuk Kyong, published in Segyeui munhak (World Literature) in 1985. The title “Supsogui bang (Room in the Woods)” is also a space where So-yang, who does not belong anywhere, stays, cutting herself off from the outside and seeking to find herself. Through So-yang's wanderings, this short story sensibly expresses the conflicts and wanderings of the young generation in the 1980s.

1985년 <세계의 문학>에 발표된 강석경의 단편소설이다. 제목인 '숲속의 방'은 어디에도 속하지 못 하는 소양이 외부로부터 자신을 단절하고 자아찾기를 모색하는 공간이기도 하다. 소양의 방황을 통해 1980년대 젊은 세대의 갈등과 방황을 감각적으로 표현하고 있다는 평가를 받는다.
