At an inn in Soritjae, Jeolla Province, a man hears the female of owner of the inn singing. When he asks the woman about how she learned to sing, she tells him that she’d learned it from a blind girl. She also tells him that the reason the girl is blind is because her father purposefully put acid in her eyes to make her blind. This story prompts the man to recall his heartless father, who had been a pansori singer. In the past, the man hated his father and secretly ran away, leaving behind his younger sister and father. The woman at the tavern learns that the man is the blind girl’s older brother, and the man sets off on a journey to find his sister.
