This novella by Yi Mun-yol was serialized in The Dong-A Ilbo in 1979, and it was later included in his collection of short stories titled Winter That Year, which was published in 1994. The story is about soldiers and military life, and the writer depicts the hallucinations and insensitivity which come from the soldiers’ sense of helplessness and fear of death as they try to overcome the meaninglessness of it all.
