판소리 다섯 마당 가운데 하나다. 작품은 양반의 아들 이몽룡과 기생의 딸 춘향의 사랑이야기로, 사설의 문학성과 소리의 음악성이 뛰어나 현재까지 다양하게 변주되며 오랜 시간 사랑을 받고 있는 작품이다. 특히 춘향의 <옥중가>는 그 비극성과 슬픔이 잘 드러나 있는 곡이다.

This story is a pansori madang (narrative), and it tells the love story between Yi Mongryong, the son of an aristocrat, and Chunhyang, the daughter of gisaeng. The story has been loved for generations for its literary value as well as for its musicality as a pansori performance. The most famous song from this work is “The Song from Prison,” which illustrates Chunhyang’s sorrow and despair.
