Plot

After completing his mandatory military service, Seong Yeon-u leaves on a trip to Jeju Island, where he meets and spends a night with a woman named Oh Mi-ran. After some time, he passes the bar exam and marries a woman named Kim Mi-ran, whom he meets at the Judicial Research & Training Center. Seong Yeon-u and Kim Mi-ran go to Jeju Island on their honeymoon and runs into Oh Mi-ran by chance. Then, after hearing from Oh Mi-ran's father that she is ill, he leaves for Malaysia to see her.

This is a novel by Youn Dae-Nyeong, serialized in Munhakgwa sahoe (Literature and Society) from 2000 to 2001. This work features two Mi-rans with different surnames, telling a story about the inconsistency between the first-person narrator and others. Through this work, the author talks about the unspecified majority of people whom we often encounter. This novel intends to aesthetically express the fact that other people are both strangers and the same people.

2000년부터 2001년까지 <문학과 사회>에 연재된 윤대녕의 장편소설이다. 이 작품은 성姓이 다른 두 명의 미란이 등장하여 '나'와 타자와의 불일치를 이야기 한다. 작가는 이 작품을 통해 우리가 흔히 만날 수 있는 불특정 다수에 대해 이야기 한다. 타인은 낯선 존재인 동시에 동일한 존재라는 사실을 미적으로 표현하고자 한 것이다.
