Plot

Mr. Heo, an old itinerant peddler, meets Dong-i, a young itinerant peddler, at a market in Bongpyeong. Walking along the mountain path surrounded by buckwheat flowers in full blossoms, Mr. Heo tells Dong-i about his youth. Dong-i, in turn, tells Mr. Heo about his mother, saying that he grew up without knowing his father. Realizing that Dong-i's mother lives in Bongpyeong and that Dong-i is left-handed like himself, Mr. Heo gets caught up in thought.
