Writers are a “motley bunch of people,” a powerful and dangerous tribe who often go unrecognized by the masses. Still, they persist, create and share, which author Min Jin Lee says is a marvelous thing. “We’re fearless, and we’re curious, and we’re the strange children,” said Lee, the 2024 winner of the Fitzgerald Prize for Literary Excellence. “At the same time, I think there’s a kind of seriousness in writers. I think that’s the part that I like best about our tribe, is that we all are earnest in still attempting to sort out the mess that we see on the page.” Lee, the author of Korean life centered novels “Free Food for Millionaires” and “Pachinko,” is the ninth recipient of the award from Montgomery’s Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum. A chance to watch it being presented will require a bit of a road trip. An evening with Lee will be held on Oct. 4, 7 p.m. at the Auburn University Hotel, 241 S College St., Auburn.
