空前の韓国文学ブームが起きている。数年前から複数の出版社が韓国文学シリーズを創刊し、刊行点数が飛躍的に増加。書店でも目立つ場所に並ぶ。2019年には『82年生まれ、キム・ジヨン』の邦訳版が、発売1年で15万部というヒットを記録した。ブームの先陣を切った出版社、クオンを立ち上げた金承福は「韓流ドラマ、K-POPの次に来るのはK-文学だと思っていました」と胸を張る。そこで、ソウルが描かれたお薦めの小説を挙げてもらった。1970年代から現在まで、この街の姿をリアルに伝える4作だ。

長年、韓国と日本の文学の関係は非対称で、韓国は日本の文学を翻訳するが、日本は韓国の文学をあまり翻訳してこなかった。２１世紀になってから状況は変化し、ここ５年ぐらいで韓国語文学の日本語訳は飛躍的に増えている。発表された４０年前にすぐにでも紹介されるべきだった本作が、素晴らしい訳でようやく登場したのも、その賜物（たまもの）だ。 一九七〇年代後半に書かれた本作を、過去の作品と呼んでよいのかどうか。確かに、扱われているのは軍政時代の韓国社会の暗部である。にもかかわらず、今の日本に生きづらさを感じる人が読むと、恐ろしいほどリアルに感じるだろう。 前半は、開発によって蹂躙（じゅうりん）されていくスラムの住人たちの物語だ。新たに建設されるマンションは家賃が高くて入れない。「こびと」と蔑称される男の一家も、入居権を安く買い叩（たた）かれ、食事中に家を破壊される。その絶望が、ある不幸をもたらす。 一家が工業地帯に移住して、三人の子どもたちが労働者としてまさに搾り取られていくのが後半部だ。何代にもわたって奪われ続け、何をしても貧困から抜け出せないことを悟った長男は、ついに行動を起こす。     source: asahi.com

Korean novels set in the 1970s and 1980s have been translated and published one after another. While the modernization of Korea at that time rapidly advanced, the number of people who felt alienation from society left behind in the wave of change was increasing. It seems that they are listening to the voices of those people who scoop out the novels and are interested in the reader's interest to deepen their understanding of the history of neighboring countries
