This is a novel by Lee Soon-won, published in the first issue of Sangsang in the spring of 1996. It has a similar composition to Lee Hyoseok’s “Memilkkot pil muryeop (When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom),” which is used as a motif. The author uses the mule that the protagonist rejects as a metaphorical representation of the protagonist’s uncle, who falls short of an ideal father figure.
