    KLN is published and distributed for the purpose of generating a discourse on Korean literature and introducing Korean writers and works to general readers and experts overseas. The theme of KLN Vol. 45 is Bapsang. In literature, “Bapsang” offers insight into family, community, society, culture, and political ideology. This issue examines changes in the lives of Korean people through literary works.

    This is an introductory booklet on Kim Hyesoon, produced for the 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair, where Korea participated as the Guest of Honor for the first time and hosted the Korean Literature Tour Program. The author was one of the 62 delegates selected by LTI Korea’s Delegation Selection Committee on the basis of the following criteria: representativeness, existing publications of translated works, and overseas marketability. The entire literature program was co-organized by the LTI Korea, the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee, Daesan Cultural Foundation, Paradise Cultural Foundation and the International Communication Foundation (ICF). The events started at the Leipzig Book Fair in March and finished with the Guest of Honor Program in October. Kim Hyesoon participated literary events in September and in the main program in October. This 21-page booklet consists of: ‘Author’s Literary World’, ‘Poetry Excerpts’, ‘Voices of the Author and Critics’, ‘Biography’ and ‘Bibliography’. The material was put together and analyzed by literary scholar Lee Soo-jung, and translated by Kang Yeo-Kyu. The photographs were taken by Han Young-hee. The booklet contains seven poems including ‘In Eyes’ translated into German. She participated in literary events in Berlin and Basel in September, and then at the Frankfurt Book Fair Korean Pavilion and Romanfabrik in October. The German translation of her work The Hell of a Certain Star was published in 2001.

    This is an introductory booklet on poet Kim Hyesoon, produced for the 2014 London Book Fair Korea Market Focus. Kim Hyesoon participated in the literary seminar “Illusion and Reality: Writing the Self” (April 8, Whitehall Room), where she discussed how language contended with the fissure between reality and ideal, and how the rapidly changing social landscapes in the UK and Korean had affected our relationships with the written word. On April 10, in the Saison Poetry Library, she read from and discussed her poetry collection I’m OK, I’m Pig!. This 26-page booklet consists of: “About the Author”, “About the Work” and “Excerpts”. The excerpts are taken from I’m OK, I’m Pig! and A Drink of Red Mirror.

    The theme of _List Vol. 22 is “K-Moms.” Under the four subthemes “Between Love and Obsession: Mothers in Popular Culture,” “Dignity in the Face of History,” “Finding Mother through Heidegger,” and “Changing Mothers in Korean Children’s Literature,” this issue sheds light on motherhood and the social gaze toward mothers. In addition, this issue features interviews with poet Kim Hye-soon and writer Lee Kiho, Korean publishing trends, coverage of the acceptance of Korean literature overseas, a spotlight on a literary site, book reviews of fiction/nonfiction/children’s literature, and an excerpt from Yi Mun-yol’s Garuda and introduces steady sellers, publishers, and trends in Korean literature to overseas readers.

    The theme of KLN Vol. 62 is “Outside the Book, Inside the Bookshop.” In the Cover Feature essays, bookstore owners and a writer discuss their own literary experiences. This issue includes an interview with the Featured Writer Yi Won, English translation of her works, and an essay on her works. The Bookmark section features two works of fiction, Kim Byungwoon’s “September Is a Prayer for the Estranged” and Seo Ije’s “Low Resolution,” as well as two poems each by poets Lee Jenny and Go Myeongjae, while the Inkstone section features an English translation of the classical novel “The Tale of a Young Maiden of the Yu Family.” Book reviews have been written by translators, editors, and writers. This issue features reviews of five books—Kim Bo-young’s On the Origin of Species and Other Stories, Cheon Seonran’s A Thousand Blues, Kim Ho-yeon’s Uncanny Convenience Store, Chang Kang-myoung’s Pasukan Buzzer, and Kim Hyesoon’s Autobiography of Death.
