1983년 으로 출간되었던 윤후명의 소설로 2005년 으로 제목을 바꾸면서 상당한 부분량을 수정하여 그간에 발표한 '돈황시리즈'를 묶어 연작장편소설로 출간했다. , , , 등 모두 4편의 작품을 묶어 한 편의 연작장편소설로 만들었다. 이들 작품은 '나'의 정체성을 찾는 여정으로 이루어져있는데, 실크로드에서 가장 발달했던 도시 둔황과 로올란을 거쳐 사막에 이르러 나를 탐구하는 과정이 작가 특유의 아름다운 문장으로 그려져 있다.

This is a novel by Yun Hu-myong published in Hyundae Munhak (Contemporary Literature) in 1993. In the work, the first-person narrator is admitted to the hospital for having a desire to reconcile ideal and reality, and realizes a new meaning to life through a woman who paints. However, the woman who helped the narrator still fails to adapt to reality. Through this, the author discusses the difficulty of an ideal life taking root in reality as well as the barrenness of life.
