1999年に韓国・仁川で実際に起きたビヤホール火災事件を題材とした、著者初の長編小説。火災が起きたとき、店の主人が金を払えと言って出入口を塞ぎ、未成年者を中心に多くの犠牲者が出たことで大きな社会問題となった。ミシン会社に勤めるサンスとキョンエの関係を軸に、火災事件の関係者たちが悲劇の記憶を抱えて生きる様を描く。
