This is an introductory booklet on Kim Won il, produced for the 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair, where Korea participated as the Guest of Honor for the first time and hosted the Korean Literature Tour Program. The author was one of the 62 delegates selected by LTI Korea’s Delegation Selection Committee on the basis of the following criteria: representativeness, existing publications of translated works, and overseas marketability. The entire literature program was co-organized by the LTI Korea, the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee, Daesan Cultural Foundation, Paradise Cultural Foundation and the International Communication Foundation (ICF). The events started at the Leipzig Book Fair in March and finished with the Guest of Honor Program in October. The author participated in the main program in October. As one of the 12 Masters of Korean Literature, he was introduced at the Frankfurt Book Fair Korean Pavilion—with a large photograph and a list of his major works and translated titles. This 25-page booklet consists of: ‘Author’s Literary World’, ‘Analysis of The House with a Sunken Courtyard’, ‘Excerpt’, ‘Voices of the Author and Critics’, ‘Biography’ and ‘Bibliography’. The material was put together and analyzed by Bang Min-ho and Choi Gang-min, and translated by Choi Eun-ah. The photographs were taken by Han Young-hee. Kim Won il participated in literary events at the Frankfurt Book Fair Korean Pavilion and Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof. The German translation of The House with a Sunken Courtyard was published in Germany in 2000.

On Oct 21 in Weltempfang Hall, Song Sokze and German author Juan Guse shared a conversation on the theme of “Life Is Ridiculous” and discussed their writings and perspectives with regards to Song’s novel The Amusing Life. On Oct 24, Song participated in a literary event at Literaturwerkstatt in Berlin, where he gave a reading and engaged in a discussion. This 6-page booklet consists of: “To the Author”, “A Riverside Village”, and “Reading Samples”. The excerpt is taken from The Amusing Life.
