This is an introductory material on poet Shin Yong-mok, produced for the 2012 Literary Event in Australia with Korean Poets. On August 29, Shin Yong-mok recited his poems and talked about his oeuvre at the poetry reading and reception held in the multipurpose hall of the Korean Cultural Center AU in Sidney, which was attended by over 80 people. On September 3, he also gave a general lecture on the history of Korean literature and read his works at Asialink in Melbourne. The event was attended by various people in the literary and cultural industries in Melbourne in addition to Australian poets, and broad discussions on the Korea-Australia exchange took place. The 25-page information booklet consists of two sections: “About the Author” and “About the Works.” It includes Shin’s poems such as “A Dangerous Bibliography,” “A Tank Lorry,” and “Autumn in the Enemy’s Land.”

2021 Seoul International Writers’ Festival Opening Ceremony (video)Korean(한국어)

This is a video of the 2021 Seoul International Writers’ Festival Opening Ceremony and Opening Keynote Speech. Under the theme “Awakening”, the event was held on at 19:30 on Friday October 8, 2021 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza. Due to the coronavirus situation, it was live-streamed with no on-site spectators. Following the Opening Ceremony, the Opening Keynote Speech was given by Han Kang and Mariana Enriquez, two celebrated novelists from Korea and Argentina who perceive and navigate the world through texts. The speech was followed by a discussion moderated by Sin Yongmok.

A total of 33 participating writers (17 from Korea and 16 from abroad) of the 2021 2021 Seoul International Writers’ Festival read selected excerpts from their own works. The 8 videos are divided into 5 novel readings and 3 poetry readings. From Korea, Jaesik Kwak, Kim Kichang, Kim Soom, Kim Yeonsu, Kim Jung Mi, Yun Ko-eun, Lee Miye, Yi Hyunseok, Lee hee young, Ch’oe Yun, Choi Jin-Young, Han Kang, Koh Jaejong, Sin Yongmok, An Hee-Yeon, Yu Gyeyoung, Lee Soyoun took part with their international counterparts, including Ge Shuiping, David Grossman, Mariana Enriquez, Maja Lunde, Max Porter, Matt Ruff, Vanessa Springora, Siri Ranva Hjelm Jacobsen, Evgeny Vodolazkin, Ken Liu, Trent Dalton, Nouri Al-Jarrah, Rim Battal, Seán Hewitt, Amanda Chong, Jan Wagner.

In this program, pairs of writers from Korea and abroad discuss various issues of modern society in relation to their works. The five sessions in 2021 were Restorative Writing (participants: Kim Yeonsu, Max Porter), Rhythm of Recovery (participants: Sin Yongmok, Jan Wagner), Artificial Intelligence and Utopia (participants: Kwak Jaesik, Ken Liu), Literature and the Way Home (participants: Koh Jaejong, Nouri Al-Jarrah), and Beyond Historical Trauma (participants: Kim Soom, Vanessa Springora). The videos were each produced in two parts in collaboration with Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS).
