This is an introductory booklet on Oh Kyu Won, produced for the 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair, where Korea participated as the Guest of Honor for the first time and hosted the Korean Literature Tour Program. The author was one of the 62 delegates selected by LTI Korea’s Delegation Selection Committee on the basis of the following criteria: representativeness, existing publications of translated works, and overseas marketability. The entire literature program was co-organized by the LTI Korea, the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee, Daesan Cultural Foundation, Paradise Cultural Foundation and the International Communication Foundation (ICF). The events started at the Leipzig Book Fair in March and finished with the Guest of Honor Program in October. The author was unable to attend the events due to personal reasons. This 21-page의 booklet consists of: ‘Author’s Literary World’, ‘Poetry Excerpts’, ‘Voices of the Author and Critics’, ‘Biography’ and ‘Bibliography’. The material was put together and analyzed by the literary critic Cho Yeon-jeong, and translated by Sonja Häussler. The photographs were taken by Han Young-hee. The booklet contains eight poems including ‘The Road with Many Signs Is Suspicious’ translated in German. The German translation of his poetry collection Prison of Love was published in 2005.

Hwang Ji-u participated in literary events in Leipzig (March, Leipzig Book Fair), Düsseldorf (April), Berlin (September), Frankfurt House of Literature and Romanfabrik (October). Several of his works have been published in German including: One Day I Will Sit in a Dimly-Lit Bar (2003) and The Shadow of the Fish (2006).

This is the full text of the English translation of “Martian Child” by Kim Seong Joong, along with the accompanying illustration, published in the Bookmark section of KLN Vol. 60. The first-person protagonist is a lab animal with webbed hands, who becomes the sole survivor on a space expedition to Mars. She meets the ghost of Laika, a dog that died in a space mission, and an abandoned exploration robot. The short story is characterized by a distinctively affectionate gaze toward those that are sacrificed and forgotten in the process of the expansion and exploitation of civilization symbolized by space exploration.

The theme of KLN Vol. 65 is “A Day in the Life of a Seoulite.” In the Cover Feature essays, a writer, a novelist, and an essayist discuss the issue’s theme.
