This is an introductory booklet on novelist Kim Un-su, produced for literary events at the Tokyo International Book Fair. On June 30, Kim Un-su gave a lecture at Gakushuin University, where he talked about his literary world and fiction as well the role of literature in seeking one’s ego and identity. On July 2, at Junkudo Bookstore, Kim Un-su, together with the Japanese translator and editor of The Plotters, engaged in conversation with readers about issues arising during the translation process, as well as the charms and complications of Korean literature in translation. On July 4, Kim shared a conversation with Japanese writer Kei Nakazawa at Hosei University about several literary works from Korea and Japan, and examined the relationship between literature and society. This 15-page booklet consists of “About the Author” and “About the Work” and includes an excerpt The Plotters.

The theme of KLN Vol. 67 is “Beyond the Page: Korean Literature Across Media.” In the Cover Feature essays, writers YSRA, Kim Un-su, Chung Han-ah, and Seo Ije, and journalist Lee Yoochae discuss the adaptation of literary works into films or TV series. The Featured Writer section features an interview with novelist Kim Ae-ran, her short story “They Said Annyeong,” and a review of her works. The Bookmark section introduces short stories “Headlight” by Kim Kitae and “Choice” by Lee Sun Ju, as well as poems “A Growing Story” and “Happy Ending” by Oh Eun and “At the Glass Plaza” and “From Unknown Things” by Yoon Eunseong. The Reviews section features reviews of five books: Chung Han-ah’s Last Night, In My Dream, Baek Sou Linne’s Falling in Paul, Lee Geum-yi’s Can’t I Go Instead, Cho Nam-joo’s For Comaneci (translated as Wo ich wohne, ist der Mond ganz nah in German), and Chung Serang’s School Nurse Ahn Eun-young.

2022 Korean Literature Global Review Contest: Promotional VideoEnglish(English) Video & Audio

The 2022 Korean Literature Global Review Contest was held from June 20 (Mon) to September 15 (Fri), 2022, for non-Korean readers. The contest consisted of three categories (book report, drawing, and video). The languages designated for the book report category were English, French, and Spanish; for the drawing and video categories, all languages except Korean. Five books that had been translated into multiple languages were chosen to be reviewed—Kim Un-su’s The Plotters, Sohn Won-pyung’s Almond, Hwang Sun-mi’s The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly, Jeong You Jeong’s The Good Son, and Cho Nam-ju’s Kim Ji-young, Born 1982. A total of 13 countries participated in the contest, and over 1,100 entries were submitted, which reflected the huge interest of foreign readers in Korean literature. This is a one-minute-eight-second-long promotional video for the 2022 Korean Literature Global Review Contest, featuring the popular K-Pop group VICTON, that shows the charm of Korean literature to the fans of the Korean Wave.
