KLN Vol. 61 includes an interview with the Featured Writer, Ha Seong-nan. Writer Yoon Chi Kyu, the interviewer, delves into various aspects of Ha Seong-nan’s various novels that have gained renewed attention through different channels and questions the points where the writer concentrated on during the translation process as well as the way the translator’s creativity and influences the author. Furthermore, the interview reflects on the significance of the power and messages that only fiction can offer in the contemporary era and encourages readers and writers alike to reevaluate their roles.

KLN Vol. 61 features an essay on the literary world of the Featured Writer Ha Seong-nan. Literary critic Yang Yun-eui examines Ha Seong-nan’s “well-made narratives and beyond” from the aspects of hyperobject, hyperspace, and hypertime, and suggests the concept of “hypernarrative.” The narrative that surpasses the characteristics of conventional narratives further solidifies the unique qualities of Ha Seong-nan’s fiction.

This is an introductory booklet on Ha Seong-nan, produced for the 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair, where Korea participated as the Guest of Honor for the first time and hosted the Korean Literature Tour Program. The author was one of the 62 delegates selected by LTI Korea’s Delegation Selection Committee on the basis of the following criteria: representativeness, existing publications of translated works, and overseas marketability. The entire literature program was co-organized by the LTI Korea, the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee, Daesan Cultural Foundation, Paradise Cultural Foundation and the International Communication Foundation (ICF). The events started at the Leipzig Book Fair in March and finished with the Guest of Honor Program in October. The author participated in the main program in October and literary events in June. This 25-page booklet consists of: ‘Author’s Literary World’, ‘Analysis of Flowers of Mold’, ‘Excerpt’, ‘Voices of the Author and Critics’, ‘Biography’ and ‘Bibliography’. The material was put together and analyzed by Kim Eun-mi, and translated by Choi Eun-ah. The photographs were taken by Han Young-hee. Ha Seong-nan participated in literary events in UIm and Stuttgart in June, and at the Frankfurt Book Fair Korean Pavilion, the Cologne House of Literature and Hofheim Municipal Museum in October. Her work ‘Flowers of Mold’ is included in A Story about an Ordinary Polka-dot Dress: Short Fiction by Korean Women Writers published in German in 2004
