Deoksun carries his wife on an A-frame and visits a university hospital to treat her stomach, which has been swollen for thirteenth month. As his family lives in poverty, he hopes that his wife's disease will be discovered to be rare, so that she will be the subject of research and receive money for treatment. But his doctor tells him that a stillborn child was still in her womb and that she needs to undergo surgery. The road back home is harder, as Deoksun carries his wife home. His wife says things that sound like her last words, while Deoksun quietly trudges home under the scorching sun.
