Plot

Newly appointed as a manager of a coal mining company, In Gyeongjin is ordered to take back control of the workplace, which has grown disruptive since the Sabuk Coal Mine Labor Struggle of April 1980. The union leaders hope they can win over Gyeongjin and keep him in check, so that their demands are heard by the corporate center of the company. However, Gyeongjin, who is there at the request of the corporate center and the President of the Korea Coal Corporation, ignores their demands.

1993년 출간된 현길언의 장편소설이다. 작품은 1980년4월의 '사북민주항쟁'과 '사북사태'수습을 주제로 삼아 당시 많은 이들의 관심을 받지 못했던 탄광노동자들의 목소리를 전달하고 있다. 특히 석탄공사와 광업소의 노조간부들 사이의 권력다툼을 핍진하게 드러내고 있다.

This novel by Hyun Kil-un was published in 1993. Set during the resolution of the Sabuk Coal Mine Labor Struggle and the Sabuk Incident in April 1980, it portrays coal mine workers, whose voices were being underrepresented at the time, in a vivid expose of the struggle for power between the Coal Corporation and the union leaders in the mining industry.
