1997년에 출간된 성석제의 단편소설집이다. 단편소설이라 하기에 다소 짧은 40편의 '이야기'들로 이루어져 있다. 이 작품집은 해학적인 인물들, 기발한 소재, 익살스러운 문장을 사용하고 있으며, 현대 소설적이라기보다 전통적인 이야기꾼의 특징을 보인다. 거대 담론들을 거부하면서 일상과 개인의 내면에 대한 성찰을 담고 있다는 평가를 받는다.

Published in 1997, The Amusing Life consists of forty “stories” by Song Sokze, all shorter in length than the typical short story. With a cast of humorous characters, quirky material, and wit, the stories display characteristics that place them closer to a traditional storyteller’s tales than to a modern work. Avoiding overwrought discourse, they reflect on daily life and the inner self of the individual.
