Plot

After his mother dies and his father remarries, the narrator lives with his father’s new family. One day, his half-sister, Mu-hui is sexually harassed and identifies the narrator as the culprit. He runs away from home because he doesn’t think anyone in his family will believe him. While looking for a place to go to, I accidentally enters a bakery. The bakery isn’t an ordinary place—it is a place where magic unfolds. Staying at the bakery, the narrator learns about how much people need magic in their lives, and above all, there I get comfort and advice on life. Then the magic bakery becomes known to the world and the police begin an investigation into the bakery,  and it is time for the narrator to return home.

Published in 2009, this novel by Gu Byeong-mo won the 2nd Changbi Youth Literature Award. It presents new possibilities for the protagonist who is faced with a desperate reality by combining elements of mystery, horror, and fantasy.

2009년에 출간된 구병모의 장편소설이다. 제2회 창비청소년문학상을 수상했다. 작품은 미스터리와 호러, 환타지적 요소가 결합되어 절망적인 현실에 놓인 주인공에게 새로운 가능성을 제시한다.
